J.T. Pappy's Sauces |
Why was that done? The answer is simple: The manufacturer has been out of stock for ages and seems to have disappeared. Despite repeated attempts to contact the manufacturer in order to re-stock the sauces, our supplier has received NO response from the manufacturer. The last we heard, the manufacturer didn't know when they would be able to make more sauce. And that was a LONG time ago. Since then, they have failed to return any messages and have "gone dark." At this time we don't even know if they are still in business.
Dave's Badlands BBQ Sauce |
Now that J.T. Pappy's is no longer available, I'd recommend Dave's Badlands Barbecue Sauce as an excellent alternative. Perhaps the closest in terms of its savory mustard-tomato flavor, Dave's Badlands BBQ Sauce is all-natural, thick and rich, with a feisty medium heat from jalapenos and green chilies to deliver just enough peppery kick to please almost everyone. I hope you'll give it a try, and if you do, please leave a comment to let us know what you think.
You can see all of our barbecue sauces on our new BBQ & Grilling Sauces section.

What a massive bummer. Loved those sauces.
ReplyDeleteWe were really bummed, too. Our warehouse kept trying to order more JT Pappy's to re-stock but calls were never returned (and this went on for months), and apparently other shops haven't been able to get any more of this sauce, either. We hope you'll try the Badlands Barbeque Sauce - if you do, please let us know how you like it.

I found out today that this sauce was discontinued! I don't think there is a sauce out there like it. I am sad :( Hope it returns in the future!
ReplyDeleteWe hope so, too - there are lots of disappointed fans out there, and the JT Pappy's sauces were always among our top-selling BBQ sauces. If they become available again, I'll definitely announce it on this blog. Thanks for leaving a comment, and best wishes for the New Year!

Can someone please dedicate a blog to recreating the sauce?
ReplyDeleteI hope someone takes up your idea, and better still, that someone has the recipes for the J.T. Pappy's sauces and resumes production! There are lots of disappointed customers out there...
DeleteI'd like to think some company would like the chance to license the brand and produce some, if not all, of the sauces. It was such a versatile product -- part taco sauce, part barbecue.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! If there was a going out of business sale or bankruptcy auction, presumably the recipes and trademarks were assets that someone would have bought. I certainly hope someone brings back J.T. Pappy's sauces - it would be a shame for them to go the way of Carolina Swamp Sauce and other great sauces that are no longer available, much to the disappointment of countless loyal customers.
DeleteI am J T PAPPY
Delete( Jeff T Pappaianni out of LaPlata, MD).
Not the originator. I have tried the sauses and found them quite good. I too have tried to get some but no luck, I would give some for gifts and tell my friend its my Co. I am into BBQ my father was a cook. I would love to take the name and recreate the following. I just need to find out if the name is reqestered and where to start. Sounds like a good TV series. Any ideas.

I like your idea - my recommendation would be for you to talk to a good business lawyer who has experience with trademark law. The lawyer should be able to conduct a trademark search and investigate whether the name and brand are registered or whether they have been abandoned and are available for use by someone else. The last thing you want is a lawsuit, so it's very important that you talk to a lawyer who does this kind of work (not just a regular "general practice" lawyer or someone who only occasionally dabbles in trademarks). Good luck, and let me know if you bring back the sauce! And thanks for reading my blog.

There's really nothing else like them, I ordered a bottle of Dave's Badlands (which of course has been discontinued as well), but hoping that someone will resurrect Gator sauces.
ReplyDeleteI'm reluctant to recommend any other "substitutes" for fear that they might be discontinued, too! :-) Seriously, though, one would think that with all the demand for JT Pappy's (and more generally for that style of BBQ sauce), someone would resurrect or recreate the recipe. I'm keeping my eyes & ears open, and my taste buds "on alert," and will keep everyone up to date as to any new developments in the JT Pappy's saga. Thanks for reading my blog and taking the time to comment!
DeleteUpdate: (not sure if it's cool to post news of another business, though) Apparently, California Tortilla has revived all varieties of JT Pappy's, and is claiming exclusivity to the brand.
ReplyDeleteI plan on re-acquiring a bottle of this ASAP and will be interested to see the back of the label in regards to company name, address, etc.
That is a VERY interesting development - thank you for letting me know! We're going to look into this and if we can carry JT Pappy's again (assuming that it's the same recipes), I'll definitely announce it on my blog and on our Facebook page. If you can buy a bottle and send me an email (sales@carolinasauce.com) with the company name, address etc from the label, I'd really appreciate it.
DeleteThanks again!

On first use (both the mild and the medium), it sure does taste as though it's the same recipe.
DeleteI even tried the hot an reaffirmed what I already knew -- I'm a wimp. (Mr. Scoville would be ashamed)
Thanks for the update - and we are working on getting these sauces back on our website. Thanks VERY much for the info on the new manufacturer, and don't worry, anyone who can handle ANY heat (even a "mere" Medium) is good in my book :-)

Good day kind folks. I am surprised to see this sauce has such a following! On a whim, I grabbed a small container of some at a California Tortilla (Philadelphia suburbs) that just opened a few months ago with the intentions of putting it on my burrito. The wrap didn't need it, so I tried dipping some pretzels and crackers in the sauce later and HOLY CRAPSTICKS THIS STUFF IS GOOD! I immediately went to the computer to see where I could buy more and found this. The good news is it looks like California Tortilla was able to acquire some (Unless it was old stock?) so there may be hope after all. I wonder if they will sell me any bottles?
ReplyDeleteHowdy! We are investigating this new development with California Tortilla, to see if they really are the new manufacturer (as opposed to selling old stock). If they are, we'll do all we can to get JT Pappy's back on our website so that you can order it from us. If you'd like to be notified in the event that we resume selling JT Pappy's BBQ Sauces, simply send me an email (sales@carolinasauce.com) with the subject "JT Pappy's" and I'll add you to our waiting list. Thanks for reading my blog, and for your comment!
