This zesty recipe comes to us from the folks at George's BBQ Sauce, who tell us that it was created by John from Nashville NC.
Ingredients
1 medium spring cabbage (pointed head works best)
1/2 cup George's Hot Barbecue Sauce
1/4 cup water
1/4 stick butter, cut into pats
Salt and pepper to taste
Cut about 3 inches from the top of cabbage. Pour water and George's Hot Sauce into cabbage. Add salt, pepper and butter. Put top back on cabbage and hold together with wooden toothpicks. Wrap cabbage in heavy aluminum foil. Cook on gas grill over indirect heat at about 325F degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until tender, turning every 15 to 20 minutes. Serve in quarters or chopped, using the reserved liquid to pour over cabbage.
Zestfully yours,
Gloria
PS: This recipe needs to be made with a vinegar BBQ sauce, like George's (an eastern NC barbecue sauce). If you want to make this recipe but don't have George's Hot BBQ Sauce, make sure you use a NC style vinegar-based barbecue sauce, and not a thick tomato-based barbeque sauce. You can search the Carolina Sauce Company online store to find more Eastern NC barbecue sauces.
